Definition of bitumen penetration grade 30/40
Penetration grade bitumen supplied by Iran Bitumen Co. is pure petroleum grade bitumen, manufactured from vacuum bottom by passing hot air. The bitumen supplied by Iran Bitumen Co. is produced from remain of crude oil after cracking and removing hydrocarbon. Penetration grade bitumen 30-40 has penetration between 30~40 desi-millimeter and softening point between 52 ~ 60C. The penetration grade bitumen 30-40 has a thermoplastic property which is like as synthetic resin material which gets softer with heating and hardens when cooled. This grade of bitumen 30/40 has very strong viscosity compare to other grades.

Description of bitumen 30/40
Bitumen 30/40 is a kind standard penetration grade bitumen. The bitumen penetration grade 30/40 supplied by IRANBITUMEN CO is produced from the vacuum residue (short residue) feedstock. Penetration grade bitumens are specified by the penetration and softening point test. Penetration grade bitumens have a thermoplastic property which causes the material to soften at high temperatures and to harden at low temperatures.
The temperature-vs-stiffness relationship of bitumen is dependent on the type of crude oil and its refining method. Bitumen penetration grade 30/40 is semi-hard penetration grade bitumen used as a paving grade bitumen which is suitable for road construction and repair. It is also used for the production of asphalt pavements with technical specifications listed below. This grade of bitumen is mainly used in the manufacturing of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses.
